Biography
Doris E. Massow Bates, 90, of Haller Avenue, Yalesville section of Wallingford, wife of almost 65 years, of the late Reuben F. Bates, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, surrounded by her children, at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford.
Born in Yalesville, February 18, 1919, a daughter of the late Herman Massow and Agnes Wollschlager Massow, she had been a lifelong Yalesville resident. Mrs. Bates was employed as an LPN at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford and also the Meriden Nursing Home until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and at her summer cottage. Doris was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie A. and Andrew Testa of Southington and Gretchen A. and John M. Koshko of Chino, California; her three sons and two daughters-in-law, John J. and Donna Bates of Yalesville and Peter M. Bates of Yalesville and Steven F. and Betsey Bates of Wallingford; her son-in-law William W. Haber of South Meriden; her 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, who will miss their Gramma Doris; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen Haber.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Saturday, January 30, 2010, from 12 p.m. noon until 12:45 p.m. Memorial funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 279 New Britain Road Suite 5, Kensington, CT. 06037, the Visiting Nurses Association of Wallingford, 135 No. Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford, CT 06492 or to a charity of one’s choice.
