Biography

Alvin L. Cyr, 60, of East Main St. Meriden, died Monday, March 15, 2010 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Bernice Steele of Middletown and the late Ivan E. Cyr.

Alvin was born in Presque Isle, Maine, December 31, 1949 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served 25 years with the U.S. Army, retiring as an E-8 Master Sargeant.

Besides his mother, Bernice, he is survived by his sister Lynn B. Baran and her husband Gary of Meriden; two nieces Cory Matikowski and her husband Joseph and Kathryn Pieta and her husband Michael; and his grandniece Ava Matikowski. He was predeceased by his brother Wayne C. Cyr.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Thursday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held privately in Maine. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT. 06450.
